I get why people dislike them, because they definitely are a very overwhelming monopoly. But despite that, they really provide very essential tools that are very easily accessible and free. I do like them as a company, so I haven’t been too worried by the fact they are a huge monopoly that dominates a big portion of the web. They’ve handled the responsibility pretty well.

Looking at the Liberapay, it’s shocking Lemmy only gets $332 a month to fund this entire social media. Compare that to the totally “grass roots” normal NFT growth where they immediately had millions poured into them from venture capitalist. As it turns out, actual grass roots social media without profit incentive isn’t profitable! And that’s how you know we’re on the right path.

Discords has really advance servers with all kinds of features that Matrix isn’t even close to competing with. Matrix added spaces, but that’s still a super half baked feature that doesn’t even begin to compare. It’s hard to go into Discord servers because there’s so much you can do with them.

As much as I like Matrix, it’s in no way a replacement from Discord. It’s like going back to Skype.

This was like within the first few months of Voat during one of the Reddit exoduses. I was on it for like a week in some meditation communities. Then yeah it pretty quickly turned into Nazi shit. Ruqqus was also Nazi shit.

PSA: if you install Obtanium, it’ll works as an updater for any git repo release apps like this. Just link the source code page and enable “enable prerelease” and it’ll download the APK, and it’ll check it periodically to run seamless updates. Also Obtainium will update itself from grabbing its own releases from it’s git repo page.
