Just be careful to not drive all traffic to only large instances, because then people who run smaller ones may not get enough users to keep doing it. How healthy will Lemmy be if everyone uses the same five instances?

Its already a bit of a problem with the large instances being so dominating.

I think the downvoting of this is showing exactly why Lemmy will fail. Why cant people have a different opinion than most? Why downvote it? You guys love your little bubbles dont you.

Speaking about this, is Lemmy still being worked on full time? I dont think you guys got the money you requested for a decent salary. So how are you handling it?

Many weird behaviors has been caused by this. A friend of mine couldnt see any new posts in a community anymore until he figured out this was the reason.

Took a long time to figure out too… It’s not exactly intuitive.

This was a thing in the beginning, a lot of instances had just spinning buttons on signup if email didn’t work correctly.

I felt the same excitement in the beginning. I still think it’s much nicer than the big tech alternatives which I never use.

It’s really nice. I have no need to use anything else.

Downvotes dont even matter… Sure they push down your comments but if you write good stuff, others will upvote it.

I feel like Lemmy.world will benefit, not so much everyone else.

I don’t really feel motivated since Lemmy is centralized now on Lemmy.world. It would have been great with a decentralized network, but sadly we didn’t get there.

The value of Lemmy for me is in its decentralized nature. Otherwise we may as well use reddit or some other centralized corp service.

With almost all users, communities and links going to Lemmy.world… Let’s just say I don’t want to pay for another centralized network.

Are you using the web interface? Liftoff mobile app has comment sorting as a setting.

I read something about this… Think it had to do with nginx web server and it’s configuration but not sure.

You are not supposed to have large instances. This is a self inflicted problem. The entire point of federated is to have many small instances and share the load.

Lemmy.world decided to accept more than 100k users. Ok fine, but the rest of the instances don’t have this problem whatsoever. We actually want more users on our instances.

And I knew this would happen. I was watching it grow and I knew eventually it would be a question about how to finance it, and I knew users would talk as if it’s a problem for Lemmy itself. It’s not, it’s a problem for Lemmy.world.

I mean sure, if it’s possible to only have ads for Lemmy.world users… Then go ahead and watch your ads. But I don’t think the rest of the instances want that experience.
