I maintain bare metal, traditional cloud hosting, containers, and serverless (plus “serverless containters”) and this is how I think of it:

Maybe one day MS will patch 1.0 to actually make it release ready. It put me off MS GUIs so hard that I avoided 3.1 until '94 (when I got my first CD drive and it came with a windows only game).

Did Microsoft officially stop caring about security or is this more of a fad, like when everything was tiles for a while?

In the last 10+ years I’ve only used TFTP with Cisco network appliances.

I’ll never stop being fascinated by the niches that some tech is able to find.
