but the unlabled “All” dropdowns are a bit confusing
I think typically upset users will say things that aren’t accurate, but there’s still value in listening to which sections they’re complaining about
idk, it’s all done client-side though
i want to see posts from communities that i already subscribed to, but because there’s more than 1000 communities on the fediverse and i’m only subscribed to a small countable subset of them, i inevitably lose out on a lot of content. (The “all” feed sucks unfortunately). So how to solve this?
You don’t use the Subscribed feed? I like Subscribed+Scaled

The term Link Aggregator has got to go. Call it a forum and call it a day
Its not the same, as forums dont use scores and have less focus on external links. The text already mentions forums, by removing link aggregator it would also be too short here.
I don’t think link aggregator is a good term at all. If I said that to my mom she would never imagine anything like Reddit, she’d probably think of Google instead. Forum would be much better. “Discussion forum” would fix the issue with it being too short.
Or even “forum with voting and comment trees” lol IDK, I feel like anything is better than “link aggregator”.

Interesting that they don’t even attempt to put a label on what type of website Reddit is, they just describe its features. IDK if that’s good or bad lol. Maybe for Lemmy you’d want to start with “discussion forum” and then describe additional features.
Couldn’t someone just browse by subscribed if they want to curate their feed?
I agree with you, but it’s actually a complaint I’ve seen often, so I guess lots of people browse All

That does work! What about if it’s a remote community? Does it just use the post ID number to determine what instance it’s actually from?
It worked in Boost, but on Lemmy UI it doesn’t linkify the whole thing

It’s just a scaler on the points, it doesn’t have any balancing methods in it. Few users means big multiplier on the scores.
Usually few users means few posts.
when I subscribe to a community it is first shown as “pending” and only a few minutes later as “joined” - why? What is it waiting for?
It’s synchronizing across servers. First it needs to ensure the remote server has your user object, then it tells the remote server to mark your user as subscribed to that community. And these aren’t immediate API calls, they’re queued up. Sometimes the message queue between servers has some other messages before yours so it may take longer than expected.
