No because they option to move or split is always there when needed. We currently have a problem wherr there is 2-3 versions of the exact same community, same rules, same topics and same users. These should consolidate into a single community thats more popular. If the community gets so popular that people want to make a unique spin off then go ahead that will always be available on Lemmy.
We dont have a better platform pointlessly fragmenting every topic across every instance.
Consolidation of communities not instances. For example instead of having 5 linux communities across Lemmy.ml Lemmy.world some others and programming.dev they could weigh up the options and say well Lemmy.ml is to controversial, Lemmy.world already has a ton of communities and programming.dev is a good neutral instance that closely ties in with linux. Let’s move the main one to there.
If anything happens it can always be split and moved again. Its the early days of Lemmy we aren’t losing a ton of content.
The way cross posting currently works would be good if we were as big as reddit but we aren’t. What we need is community consolidation. Unless there is an actual reason for community split like world news.ml and world news.world they should work to consolidate.

Are they though? I didn’t submit posts on reddit. Looking at the front page of lemmy it’s missing a lot of the topics and subjects reddit posts about.
I’m not trying to be a downer, I think 250k is great and it’s enough to make lemmy 100% replace reddit for me. But I don’t think it dents reddit. I talked to my friends and they barely noticed anything except the blackout. I go on reddit all the same communities are still posting and commenting as normal. But saying that when I looked at reddit I realized how much garbage is posted there compared to lemmy.
I doubt it made a dent. 250k doesn’t even register on the map of 100m active users.
I think having a link aggregator is going to be so great for the fediverse. It allows us to gather content from all over the internet and bring to to the often secluded fediverse.
It also means we can post links to fediverse discussions and draw people in.
What is the advantage of that?
If Lemmy.ml wants their own version because they have actual different moderation standards that arent being fulfilled then thats a good reason have a separate community.
I’m suggesting centeralization where possible to maximise the user experience. This doesnt mean when the user base grows they must stay on one instance and no other communities can popup. It only means we currently have a small community so let’s not fragment prematurely.
