I mean im not 100% sure but there are like so many specific meme communities I gotta think there already is a politcal memes.

I like the groupings things but don’t find the pre subscribed all the useful. Part of it is until the federation is the main location to go for niched content it makes more sense to block what you don’t want than to subscribe to what you do. May always be like that given that its much easier for variations on the same thing to pop up (although piefed groups should handle that)

It blocks 4 communities. Hardly seems worth it. Would love one of each for sports and memes which would need something close to what feels like a hundred communities for each.
I don’t really concern myself with who runs things. I just treat the federation like the real world. If I like places I frequent them, if I don’t dislike places they will be in my rotation, if I don’t like them then I don’t hang at them.
I would not worry about it honestly. Anyone can create communities and I would not be to concerned if one is run by thin skinned folks. I mean banning you without discussion to me is I place I don’t want to frequent. Was using the word feud to cavalier. Well yeah. I mean we all realize how fucked the situation is but personally if I saw someone call it that I might comment but not sit there and think they are purposely trying to minimize it or something. I would just block the community and move on. Heck I consider being blocked a convenience to find out places I don’t want to frequent.

I mean thats great and all but they will be shut down and then there will be nothing for you. Like it or not people putting up an instance will have to follow the law.

well again I would like the max control to be at the individual level. Obviously in order to exist instances will have to follow the law in locality they serve from but other than that I would personally like everything at the user level.

ahh but so would you. Every choice we make. Are you seeing everything on facebook. I certainly am not. Nor xitter. nor linkedin. nor reddit. nor even here. Just my choice of how I read my feed sets me on a course to see some discourse and not others.

I mean that happens all the time and no one is arrested. Once its credible like someone is holding a gun or commands people who do. Then it becomes a big deal.

Is that somehow worse than making a threat to an individual? Most threats are really about how credible it is and for motive if the person actually was killed.

I mean. csam did not instantly come to mind. I like tor and don’t immediately think its only for nefarious means. I like distributed ledger too (although hate most crypto).

I mean beyond the eww and moral issues. Well thats just not possible. Instances can’t be expected to break the law.

We would be theoretically different platforms though. Blocking is one of those things that cannot be done with instance level configs. It would have to be how the federation does it one way or another. So im thinking a fork where one goes one way and the other goes the other. So its like (ugh I hate using this example) one of us is on facebook and the other is on reddit. We would never see each others things (excepting some middle person reposting from the other platforms or such). If such a fork happened I would go with the one that had symmetric blocking.

I get that and no problem. I see the downvotes and honestly I don’t get why. Yeah maybe the tone is a bit aggressive and belies what I believe to be a genuine hope for improvement but I don’t think what you have is pointless.

They are approximately the same size and honestly mine is a fair amount of repetition of what I have said already but giving you new analogies to see if it makes more sense for you.

sorry but you need to shorten the reply I replied to for this to happen :P your funny.

I don’t see what you are not getting if I avoid someone and do my speaking away from them. They don’t hear me and I don’t hear them. To some degree echo chambers have always existed. You go to any random bar and it will often have somewhat of similar attitudes amont the patrons but there will still be lively discussion. One reason is some of the patrons also patronize another bar that others don’t but some of the others patronize a bar the first group does not. Anyway I don’t really care if you like blocking or not but I will be on the technology that allows it and you will be on one that does not so the really great thing is eventually it will be like we blocked each other. Even though I am not looking to block you currently even though I could. So I guess im saying your requirements for what you want your space to be will create an echo chamber for you. The federation is an echo chamber that blocks folks that are only on xitter or facebook or reddit but not necessarily completely as their are communities dedicated to postings stuff from those outside sources (which I personally block). Those people reposting from the other sources are that middle person and although I don’t want to hear the stuff they post from these other social media sites I will still hear things from them that are influenced from hanging in those spaces.

You sure can. You avoid them. You don’t go to the places they go. The internet piles everyone together and humans can’t handle that scale. People heard other political opinion from more reasonable people who mixed with different groups that happened to intersect at a place. If the asshole showed up they would leave but the other person would not but they might catch up with the other person and hear some relevant things the asshole had to say. Given the asshole is just an asshole because it rubs the first person the wrong way. Its this middle person that enables the flow.
Tech certainly is in a wierd spot. It certainly had lost its sheen much before that but luckily I actually like solving problems and helping people. What was frustrating when I was still working was it kinda felt like any time you were good at something you were pulled out. I literally had to refer people to my boss if they pinged me for them to authorize time with me or someone else from the team. When we had something working they often wanted us working on something else and leave the first thing to other folks. Thing is that means it lacks a lot of polish. Its like a really good poc. And again don’t get me wrong I love doing poc’s and quickly getting things going and would love to push off and go on to another thing before it gets tedius but usually its not being pushed to a team to finish it off instead its just. well. good enough and we don’t want to spend more on this solution. anyway I have been unemployed for over a year so I would appreciated just being able to sink my teeth into something complex.
