16·3 years agoI did quote owned in that comment.
Legally I think you own the book, but not it’s contents? So legally it would be the same? (The content is copyrighted so you can’t reproduce it etc)
The real difference is in usage, with a book, even an ebook, if you have it you effectively own it. They can’t stop you reading it.
Unfortunately with games nowerdays everything checks in with servers or is online only, so if the publisher or distributor say so, you lose access. The only way round that is cracked copies or DRM free games like on GoG.

352·3 years agoYou have probably never ‘owned’ a computer game. Even when you had discs/cartridges you owned the disc/cartridge, but had a single license for the game.
That’s why it was technically allowed to copy the disk for your own use, but not to share - you only had one license.
Steam is the same, just without the disk.

I believe we also see the you are what you believe you are with the returned in warbreaker
Mistborn era two just about beats out early Stormlight. Late Stormlight really slows down.

They should have scans to pick a lot of this up though.

1001·3 years agoThe exposed data included backups of personal information belonging to Microsoft employees, including passwords for Microsoft services, secret keys, and an archive of over 30,000 internal Microsoft Teams messages originating from 359 Microsoft employees.
In an advisory on Monday by the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) team, Microsoft said that no customer data was exposed, and no other internal services faced jeopardy due to this incident.

1·3 years agoIt would be interesting to know what Sazed would drop if he died - would it be a single shard or two? - did they actually merge?
I don’t think it’s nearly as clean as 8 vs 8. To date we’ve only really seen 3-4 “negative” shards: Odium, Autonomy, maybe Ambition, and maybe Dominion
Negative is relative. If Preservation was on a wold on their own, many would consider them to be ‘negative’ (depending on situation). We don’t know that Cultivation is actually ‘good’ I can imagine that if you got pruned for the greater good, you wouldn’t consider it to be a good shard.
Not all of those are Cosmere

1·3 years agoWhat was the deal with the anti-rhythms? was it not more than that? If its the anti-investature for the person being hit, what happens?
And do invested weapons have more abilities in the cognitive realm?

11·3 years agoFor 3 I was more thinking - if people/spren have a presence in the cognitive realm while in the physical - would one of those daggers, tuned to counter the default investiture of the person kill them (in the physical realm) from the cognitive realm?
fair point on the deadeyes though - they can be fully in both realms at the same time? - i assume if you killed them, someone’s shardblade would go poof

I think the assumption given there are going to be another 5 books is that their not going to win (But may not lose…). Its good to see Hoid being knocked down a peg (but probably not good)
Ok, that’s amazing 🤩

1·3 years agowe are not on the Beehaw block list, but equally, I cant find us through them, so not sure whats going on there?

I do recommend the stormlight short stories, they are both quite good.
What info are you specifically looking for?
Mistborn and Stormlight all
There are shards that represent certain concepts, ruin, preservation, honour, cultivation etc. people hold these shards, but are, influenced by it’s intent the longer they hold it.
Generally, each shard has picked a planet/solar system to settle and create/enhance their population.
Each systems magic tends to end up mirroring in some way the intent of the shard that created it. Honours require oaths, Ruin’s requires stealing power off others etc.
Some magic systems work for their users off planet (you have seen this!), others are more difficult.
