About 5 or 6 years ago I interviewed a girl who had been working on that tech, and it stunned me that the suspicions folks like me had were being verified by a software engineer that had worked on the feature. I want to say that looking back may naïveté seems quaint, but it’s still terrible and unbelievable that most companies spy on all their users’ communications and lifestyles at literally every opportunity.
I’d send a message saying I was going back to bed and sleeping in. I’d also sleep in more time than I spent fixing the issue because of the time it took to get back to sleep. I’ve done this several times over the last few years.
Also, as somebody else noted, if your company isn’t taking steps to help your health by addressing constant interruptions, it’s time to leave. I had a job where I got paged so much that I went to a meeting with my boss to talk about how awful my work life was, and I got paged 3 times during the meeting. I told him “I’m not paid to sit here with my pocket vibrating. We need to fix this situation.”

This sounds so slippery slope hypothetical, but this is exactly what Adobe did with Photoshop, Lightroom, and more, which shows that this is actually happening right now.
I agree with you about game pass. Adobe is different though. With Game Pass you rent a whole library of software, and if you really just want to play one game you can outright buy it. With Adobe you are renting maybe a few apps, and if you only want one (like I do) you cannot pay outright for it.
Game Pass even gives you a discount if you pay for the title outright.
Fuck Adobe.
Scans are just rasterized images. There are many formats more suitable for scanning and then editing, and some of them are even embedded inside PDF.
This is one reason I love test driven development. Once you have the solution, there’s somehow never time to write tests. If you write the tests first, then find the solution, there is somehow time to write them.
