6·3 years agoThere’s this bot that does that https://github.com/hjalp/leddit
Some instances allow videos and gifs, it’s a matter of it being implemented in the official lemmy code base so it atleast can be an option to turn on.
Some appa also allow youtube embeds, Avelon is one that supports embeds and videos/gifs

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•How can we fix Lemmy codebase so Wayback Machine archives not allowing replies to comments being viewed?English
3·3 years agoThe screenshot is a lemmy thread. The replies on the lemmy thread are all still being hosted (its a post from a few hours ago)
Im asking how Lemmy’s codebase could be updated so its easier for wayback machine to properly archive threads including the replies to the comments.

121·3 years agoI dont really understand what your comment is implying lol. I’m asking if there’s something admins or ideally the devs can change in the codebase so its easier for the wayback machine to properly archive lemmy threads.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•A setting to only show posts and communities in your chosen language would be nice.English
3·3 years agoA setting to translate posts/comments to your language would be nicer. I really dislike the fragmentation of the web by languages. The internet was supposed to connect the world not place us into different silos seperated languages and algorithms.
We can have a privacy preserving translator that can auto translate to your language with a button/alert to see the original language version

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•It seems that for a large Lemmy instance to be sustainabile long term (especially at the level of traffic reddit sees) it requires ads and/or raising enough donations like WikipediaEnglish
6·3 years agoWe should never have ads.
We should simplify the process for lemmy servers to display how much the servers are costing monthly, how much funds are coming in monthly, and the way for people to donate monthly.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•With the recent hack, there is now irrefutable proof of malicious actors trying to break Lemmy and steal user accounts. Please be careful about entering your password into random Lemmy apps!English
42·3 years agoThe greatest part of Bluesky/atProtocol vs ActivityPub is that they let you sign in to one account on any service on the protocol and it requires you to make separate app passwords.
Users getting invite codes every X weeks is nice for the server the require registration too
That’d be great

That’s a great idea but definitely keep it on Lemmy not matrix. That way it’s easy to come back to and for people to find when googling about the codebase. Also it’s way easier to keep track of questions etc that need answers instead of things getting lost in the chat format of matrix
